Unveiling the Geelong Arts Centre
The transformation of the Geelong Arts Centre represents a once-in-a-generation shift for regional Victoria, officially cementing its status as Australia’s largest regional performing arts hub.
The redevelopment of the Geelong Arts Centre was a collaboration between the Geelong Arts Centre, ARM Architecture, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and the wider First Nations community.
Porter’s Mineral Paint was used externally, both on the concrete drape feature that runs across the front of the building, and the rainbow of colour that runs along the back of the building. Mineral Paint was chosen for its longevity, colourfastness and for the long-term health of the building façade
These co-designers have woven together traditional stories of the land, language, water and sky, finding a balance between artistic design and operational needs. “Each element of the external design is enriched with a story of its own, whether that be visual references relating back to performance, the historical context of the site, or to Wadawurrung culture and traditions,” says ARM Founding Director, Ian McDougall.
The microporous nature of Porter’s Mineral Paint allows water vapour to escape, keeping the substrate dry and protected, while limiting the possibility of mould and mildew.
