Colour you can feel: the making of
It's hard enough to know what a colour will look like on your wall, let alone how it will transform the feeling of a space.
That's why Porter's Paints has launched our new campaign, Colour you can feel.
We've teamed up with Melbourne artist Zory McGrath, to bring hand-painted vignettes of daily life showing how colour can shape the mood and emotion of a space.
Zory is creating over 70 miniature works for the campaign. When asked about her approach, Zory said "It was an incredibly intimate process, with each scene becoming it's own small emotional world. Working with the team from Porter's, I immersed myself in each colour, exploring not only its colour theory, temperature, tone, contrast and harmony, but also what it made me feel and the memories or atmosphere it evoked".
Zory wanted each colour to communicate intimacy and storytelling, using warm and cool palettes, as well as light and shadow to suggest mood, time of day and a sense of lived experience.
She loved the challenge of distilling emotion into each miniature artwork an allowing the colour itself to become almost another character surrounding us, transforming a space and quietly connecting us to people, moments and memories.
"There is a richness and individuality to their colours that feels very distinctive and I’ve always been drawn to the way their colours can evoke a feeling, memory or atmosphere almost instantly. Being able to interpret those emotive colours through my own artistic lens was incredibly exciting. It gave me an opportunity to use something I already admire and connect it with my own visual language, exploring how colour and emotion can come together to create something that is not only beautiful to look at, but something you can genuinely feel."
"This wonderful collaboration revealed to me, perhaps more deeply than ever, just how profoundly colour can shape the way we experience the world around us.
As an artist, I’ve always perceived colour emotionally, but working on Colour you can feel made me more conscious of how quickly and instinctively it can influence our emotions, memories and sense of connection. A thoughtfully selected wall colour can make a space feel warm and intimate, calm and contemplative, energised or nostalgic, often before we have even consciously registered why.
It reminded me that art and interiors are not simply things we look at — they are environments we feel.
Colour has this extraordinary ability to transform an ordinary space into something deeply personal and evocative."
