When heritage architects Lovell Chen were tasked with the restoration of Melbourne’s iconic bayside Palais Theatre, they consulted Porter’s technical and colour experts to recreate the original architects vision for the building. Using modern paint technology the Palais is set to look it's best for generations to come.
Peeling back the layers
The Palais has seen it's fair share of wonderful shows pass through the doors, and just as many re-decorating projects swathe the exterior. Lovell Chen took on the mammoth task of carefully removing every layer of paint all the way back to the original 1927 bare render. They paused at the final layer for expert analysis to ascertain the original colour, which was then passed onto the professional colourists at Porter’s HQ who recreated the tone in high-tech & handmade Mineral Paint, coloured with lightfast pigments to keep the Palais glowing on.
